The Food Allergy

Food Allergies occur when the body's immune system produces an anti-body in response to a protein contained in specific foods. Exposure to a food even in small amounts can cause symptoms from discomfort like stomach upset, itching, headache, eczema, and congestion and range to more life threatening difficulty breathing, tongue swelling, and hives. They may range from minutes to hours of exposure.

According to studies there are eleven foods that account for 90 percent of the reactions.
1. wheat
2. dairy
3. peanuts
4. tree nuts (cashew, almonds, walnuts)
5. egg
6. soy
7. fish
8. shellfish (crustaceans: crab, lobster, shrimp, mussels)
9. seseme seeds
10. sulphites (food additives)
11. mustard

Finding out what you are allergic to can be done by elimination diets or blood tests (for more information call Health Dynamics : 714.754.8008 to get your blood panel or visit the Wednesday night health workshop every week  from 7-9pm)
